This is a cornerstone project of the GMWiki.

It is through these projects that the GMWiki will thrive. Help support them!

GMWiki is not merely a small website running on a nameless beige box in someone's basement. This project has ambitious goals that embrace the broad community that revolves around Game Maker.

[edit] Reference Manual

To many, the official Game Maker manual is the help file. The GMWiki intends to supplement the official manual by documenting not only the raw basics but by also providing a human insight into the many quirks only encountered through experience. But the official manual only lists the included functions. In addition to the standard library, the GMWiki will document projects such as DLLs, or GMWiki:User Contributed Functions.

[edit] Education

New users to Game Maker are shocked by the limitations they first encounter, such as the disappointing lack of a makeRPG() function, or a 'New Player Sprite' button. These people have no direction of where to go to, and the GMWiki intends to be their guiding light. Tutorials will form the keystone of this project. An amazing majority of new users are not even aware of the Tutorials available on Gamemaker.nl or the location of the official manual. Having all this information in one unit makes for quite a convenience and a positive learning experience.

[edit] History

An insight into the past is always interesting. Game Maker is no exception. It started out as a simple tool to get children interested in computing. It quickly exploded into an international community of programmers. Documenting its roots can help to explain why things are the way they are today. However, one can only discuss GM's history for a limited time. It isn't very deep. The people of GM are a much more interesting topic. So are the games made with it.
